Huge Mount Benson Trail Guide Coming Soon

Welcome to PureOutside! This post used to be on Island Adventurer. To better organize the outdoor information it will now be hosted here.

Mount Benson is one of those places that so many people see but few ever visit. I talk to people all the time in Nanaimo that see Mount Benson every day but haven’t really thought about hiking it. Some of the more adventurous souls have thought about hiking the satisfying trail but aren’t sure of the way or even where to start.

We’re releasing a guide June 15th 2011 will be jam packed with goodies about getting up to the top of Mount Benson

The guide will include accurate directions to the trailhead, very detailed descriptions of the main trails on Mount Benson, high-resolutions photos of the trail and viewpoints, GPS tracks to load onto your hand-held device and various other tidbits to help make your day on the trail as awesome as possible.

Stay tuned for more info as we get closer to launch date.

[UPDATE June 17 2011]: It’s definitely past the initial launch date we had envisioned for the guide. The snow on Benson has prevented any good photos of the trail itself near the top of the mountain. Once all the snow melts we can get some solid pictures and we’ll be good to go!

Don't know many people here yet so this is great. Hope the bike trails are challenging.

Not many bike trails on Benson but there are a couple that are good. The guide is mostly about the hiking/snowshoeing there. Tyler, check out the Abyss or Doumont trails for good mountain biking in Nanaimo.

Any update on the trail guide? Really looking forward to reading this!

Hey Steven, It's in the works. Just a bit more writing to do and the rest of the photos now that the snow is gone from Benson. If we can get some decent weather 'round here, I'll be out grabbing though. Hopefully in the next couple weeks.

Hello Ross
A Nanaimo trail guide is well overdue and will be of great value to local hikers. I do hope Brian Roberts, (Roberts Roost) has been consulted as he knows the trails in this area better than anyone. He was born here and has been hiking these trails for some 60 years. Without Brian any book will be viewed by the majority of hikers as just another Nanaimo hiking guide to glance through and return to the shelf.

Thanks for the comment Calvin! I'll have to track him down.
