April Outdoor Blog Carnival

Welcome to the first monthly Outdoor Blog Carnival on PureOutside!

We were looking for a way to present some awesome hiking and outdoor blog posts from around the blogosphere. Linking to them on Twitter is fun but doesn’t last very long. The Blog Carnival posts last forever and brings together a great group of people to put together a series of posts around a certain them and arrange them into a Carnival post. So now the history is over with lets get on to the good stuff!

Seeing as we’re starting to get some beautiful spring weather out there, we thought it was fitting to have a spring themed Carnival!

The PureOutside Blog Carnival April Lineup

East West Hike

ADKinLA from East West Hike writes about his new found love for wool shirts. I gotta say I was very skeptical of the merino wool when I first saw it. It was toted as the wonder fabric for everything outdoors. That’s a pretty big statement to make for something that everything thinks is itchy and reminds their parents of their childhood trips into the cold backcountry. I’ve been rocking all sorts of merino the last couple years during almost everything I do outside. You can get everything from boxers to leggings, socks, shirts and toques.

10,000 Birds

Birding is something I haven’t yet gotten into. I love hearing their sounds and the little ones flitting around in the woods when I’m out hiking or even  right in the city but I have no idea what any of them are called. I’ve just recently go into photography and birds are a wonderful prey to for the hungry photography to find. Bird photography is not easy though! I’m impressed with Mike’s photos of all the different kinds of birds. I might have to try my hand at some bird photography when I’m in the woods next.

Mike Bergin from 10,000 Birds writes about his Big First Day Birding on the Upper Coast.

Outdoor Vancouver

Karl from Outdoor Vancouver has become newly addicted to trail running and rightly so! I’m totally with Karl on this when he says he now prefers to “throw on my trail running shoes and race up to the peak of any trail as fast as I can. There is a greater sense of freedom when its just you, your shoes, and the trail.” So awesome! I’ve just recently got a pair of new trail runners as well and have been itching to get out onto the trails and peaks and give them a good working! Alas the snow is still here so we may have to wait a little longer.

PureOutside

And lastly here on PureOutside, we’ve just published a review of the Hi-Tec Granite Peak Parka after bombing around on the ski hill and in the woods with it. I was very pleasantly surprised with my new 3-in-1 jacket. I had never owned one before preferring to go with single layered jackets for most of my activities. I can say now that depending on the conditions, the Granite Peak Parka 3-in-1 is my go to jacket.
