What Is It?
A new series of posts is coming to PureOutside.
It’s called What is it?
From all my time outdoors and working in an outdoor gear shop, I’ve spent a lot of time asking and answering the question, “What is it?” It might be about some piece of obscure climbing gear and someone doesn’t know a lot about climbing. It might be a piece of a tent that someone who’s not into camping a lot won’t know what the name of it is. It might be some brand new outdoor gadgetry that hasn’t even been on the market for long yet and people are wondering what it looks like and what it does.
The new series aims to address the basics of what all the outdoor gear in the industry is. It’s a lofty goal but it will be ongoing and incorporate some of the new gear that’s only been on the market for days as well some more well-known gear that’s been around for ages. Everyone has their moments when they see some new piece of gear and go “What is it?”, even the old verterans.
Personally, I’m just getting into ski touring and will be making an effort to learn every piece involved in that grand adventure. It’s most likely going to be seasonal, winter gear in the winter and good weather gear in the summer, probably with a few little odds and ends thrown in. GPS, touring skis, and snowshoes are first up on the list for the articles, so get ready for those.
If you’ve been wondering “What is it?” with any outdoor gear you’ve seen, send me a note and I’ll get an article going for you!
